Usually I'll rake the edges of the roof to prevent ice dams, which can cause leaks and, subsequently, cause water to get under the shingles and into your insulation. If you have a metal roof, you're one of the lucky ones. For those of us with shingles, however, winter can cause problems. With another big storm coming with possible wetter, heavier snow, it's time to do something.

At this point, raking just the edges won't solve the problem of drifting snow on parts of the roof. Therefore, I need someone with a) a better ladder than mine and b) someone who's a little less klutzy and has a better back than I do. So, in order to find some one, I did what any reasonably intelligent and connected person would do...I posted on Facebook.

The responses came in quickly and, if you're looking for someone, you might use some of these suggestions. Mind you, these are suggestions not endorsements. I ended up going with Julie's husband, Bill, who is close by and in the construction business.

Please note that G & E Roofing does commercial rooftops only, not residential. That said, if you have a commercial building, G & E is top notch.
