A few days ago I went to the dentist to get a cleaning and they found a cavity in my wisdom tooth. I asked if I could wait until January so my benefits could reset to have it filled and they obliged. Now, my dental insurance and I’m sure many others doesn’t cover the white fillings in the back of the mouth.

I know there are negatives to silver (amalgam) fillings, but I haven’t had any issues with the silver fillings that were done back when I was 12 years old. Still there, still doing what they’re supposed to do and still fine.

My dentist doesn’t use silver fillings at all anymore. We’re a family of five and every penny matters. Is there a dentist in the central or southern Maine area that still uses silver fillings if requested by the client? When it comes to the kids, we'll go with white (resin) because of aesthetics and I'm not even sure if they'll ever have cavities in their teeth they have so far because their teeth are sealed.

I’m 41 years old and I'm certainly not a model, so why would I care if the back of my mouth has a bit more metal? Suggestions please.
