There are people all over the spectrum on this and I'm guessing there's no opinion out there that's not passionate. Now, a Utah gun group is offering free training to 200 educators so they can get their permits to carry a concealed weapon.

The Utah Shooting Sports Council is waiving it's usual $50 fee. The course is set to begin at noon today.

Advocates say teachers can act more quickly than law enforcement in the critical first few minutes to protect children from the kind of shooting that left 20 children and six adults dead at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut. Arizona's Attorney General has proposed amending state law to allow one teacher in each school to carry a gun and in Ohio, tactical firearms training is being offered to teachers.

Opponents argue that a teacher could be overpowered for the gun or there could be a misfire causing injury or worse.

As a side note, it is legal for people with concealed weapons permits to carry guns into schools in Utah and that includes teachers.
