The 2013 Farmers' Almanac came out last week and the weather looks cold and snowy for this winter.  But the Almanac is so much more than that!  Editor Peter Geiger of Lewiston, our yearly Halloween guest, knows more than anyone that many people, not just old-timers, rely on the Almanac for everything from planting crops to planning weddings!

Although the weather is typically what most people go to first, the Almanac is packed with all sorts of useful, interesting and just plain fun things!  Things like "Philosofacts."  Here's an example from this year's edition: "The trouble with being a good sport is you have to lose in order to prove it."

"Brainteasers & Riddles" is another feature that I, personally, enjoy quite a bit.  Try the one below and see if the answer surprises you:

1- Write down the first three digits of your phone number (not the area code) 2- Multiply by 80 3- Add one 4- Multiply by 250 5- Add in the last 4 digits of your phone number 6- Add in the last 4 digits of your phone number again 7- Subtract 250 8- Divide by 2.

If the answer isn't surprising to you, then you've done something wrong (like I did).

If you want to learn more, got to The Almanac's website, pick up a copy from the news stand or listen to The Moose Morning Show on Halloween when Peter joins us for a fun and SPOOKY time :o)
