Today June 28th is 'National Paul Bunyan Day'. Who is Paul Bunyan? He is a giant lumberjack in folklore often shown with his blue Ox named "Babe." There is a statue of him at Bass Park in Bangor right on Main St. next to or in front of the new Cross Insurance Center.

What does Paul Bunyan mean to me? I know I've written on this subject a bazillion times so I'm not going to retell it but I will say, Paul Bunyan reminds me of my first days in Maine and the US. There is a nostalgic connection with Paul Bunyan or at least his statue and to me Paul Bunyan is Bangor.

While living in Bangor, they had a minor league baseball team named the Blue Ox. Dennis "Oil Can" Boyd formally a pitcher with the Boston Red Sox was on the team and did well.

Whether you believe Paul Bunyan stories are real or not, you must visit Bangor and get a selfie with his statute.
