It’s Maine Restaurant week. A week where we try new places or go to a place we love that’s tried and true. Locally owned and operated eateries around the state have discounted meals and incentives to come in and eat.

I have to say, if you’re going to eat out, locally run restaurants are just as affordable as the big chains. I can get just as good a deal at say, DaVincis or Marco’s in Lewiston as I can say, Olive Garden or Macaroni Grill. Both Olive Garden and Macaroni Grill are good, but I’m just saying the local owner is as good if not better in many cases. And as Lisa’s ads say, the money stays here.

If you can't do it this week, next time you go out, try a place that’s local and maybe somewhere that closes on Mondays. As a rule places that close on Mondays are usually local.

A few of my favorite place in the Lewiston-Auburn area:

-DaVinci’s at the Bates Mill Complex in Lewiston
-Grid Iron on Lisbon St. in Lewiston
-Chickadee of Lewiston on Lisbon
-Roy’s on the Auburn rotary for breakfast
-Mac’s Grille on Minot, Ave in Auburn
-Marco’s just off Main St. Lewiston in Fairgrounds (Mollison Way)

If I’m looking for takeout, as in Chinese or pizza, I’m always up for Heathco’s on Court St. in Auburn. I dig Pat’s and George’s Pizza too on Center St. in Auburn, but they’re more places you’d want to sit in and enjoy. As for Chinese, China Wok at the Auburn Plaza is good normally, Jade Garden on Main in Lewiston we order from there sometimes and another good place for Chinese, if you like a buffet is, Tin Tin.

It’s Maine Restaurant Week, enjoy it until March 10!
