The Children's Discovery Museum, Capitol St, Augusta, presents a very special event today (Oct. 23) from 3 pm to 6 pm. It's the opportunity for two local Boys & Girls Clubs, the Kennebec Valley YMCA and the 21st Century Community Learning Centers Program to all collaborate with the Children’s Discovery Museum for the first time, with support from the Maine Afterschool Network.

Plus, Maine Robotics will be on hand and Mad Science will be performing Fire & Ice from 5 – 6pm.

According to the Children's Discovery Museum:

The 3-hour event will start with free, open exploration of five STEM-centered stations, which will continue throughout the entire event. There will be a slime station with lots of different ingredients so families can work together to concoct their own batch of slime. Volunteer teens from the Augusta Boys & Girls Club will facilitate a lava-lamp station where families can experiment with density and molecular polarity. There will be a station for constructing balloon-powered cars to demonstrate energy and Newton’s Third Law of Motion first hand. Another section of the museum will be dedicated to designing miniature catapults which can be taken to the “battle field” where visitors can build their own “towns” out of paper and do battle! The final station will give families the opportunity to design and build their own rockets out of a variety of materials, which they can take outside to launch. UMaine Robotics and other providers of special programming will also be invited to participate in this event.

The event is free to attend and open to the public. Snacks will be provided. FMI: 622-2209
