Move over, Kimmel and Fallon! There's a new player in the late-night game. Monday night (March 23), James Corden kicked off his gig as host of The Late Late Show. In case you missed it, you can watch his first-ever opening here!

If you're wondering just exactly how James got the job, you're not alone. Even the comedian admits he's not sure. Luckily, he's got an explanation. Yep, that's right: James won the spot via a Golden Ticket, Willy Wonka-style.

Of course, the hosting job is a prime gig — and apparently one that Simon Cowell himself eyed! Well, at least in the footage James showed of the mogul unwrapping chocolate bar after chocolate bar in search of the Golden Ticket. (Veruca Salt, anyone?) Amazingly enough, Billy Crystal, Lena Dunham and more stars are also shown hoping to find the slip of foil in their chocolate bars.

It's once James luckily finds his Golden Ticket (thanks, Chelsea Handler!) that the real fun begins. "You might have the ticket, son," Jay Leno growls to him. "But do you got what it takes?"

James embarks on the hilariously taxing road to becoming a late night host. Hurdles he faces include dropping his British slang in favor of American terms and learning how to faux laugh at his guests' anecdotes.

Later, actor Tom Hanks stopped by and the pair re-enacted all of Tom's film roles in under seven minutes!

So what does this tell us about James as a host? He's more than willing to poke fun at himself — but he's also thinking out of the box. Think Jimmy Kimmel's witty humor mixed with Jimmy Fallon's endearing personality.

Check out the opening in the video above for cameos from Meryl Streep, Shia Labeouf and more!
