Today, January 2nd with 'National Personal Trainer Day' is 'National Buffet Day' which is as ironic as it is hilarious to me, however, along those two it is also 'National Science Fiction (Sci-fi) Day' today. I'm not so much a sci-fi person now but as a young boy, I loved science fiction. Listed below are some of my favorite sci-fi movies and TV shows from my youth.

First and foremost we'll begin with the original Star Wars trilogy. 'A New Hope', 'The Empire Strikes Back' and 'Return of the Jedi'. You can never go wrong by throwing any of those movies into the DVD player.

'ET, The Extra Terrestrial' I think is my all time favorite science fiction movie. I saw that movie in the theater three or maybe even four times. It ran for a whopping 20 something weeks, totally unheard of in today's releases.

I totally love 'Space Balls' as well. That movie is a total parody of all of the space movies out at the time and a must see if you haven't yet.

The first movie I saw in the theater was 'Superman'. A movie I saw as a kid and have caught on TV on occasion. It's really funny to see how special effects have improved over the years. What was state of the art back in the day in now 2015 sometimes looks like it was done by a four year old on a PC.

A few other sci-fi movies I wouldn't mind seeing again decades later for the special effects, to either marvel or laugh are. 'The Black Hole', 'Total Recall' (the original), 'The Flash' and 'Back to the Future' which I'm sure we'll see a few times this year as the year depicted in "the future" was 2015.

Now to look back at some science fiction TV shows I liked at one point or another. I was never a fan of the first go around of 'Star Trek' maybe because it was on before my time, but liked 'Star Trek, The Next Generation' when it was in first run.

I found 'The Greatest American Hero' a fun show, and still love the theme song. Does anyone remember the TV show, 'The Powers of Matthew Star'? If I remember correctly it followed 'Knight Rider' on Friday nights for awhile on NBC, a great show for the six weeks or how ever many weeks it was on.

A few other TV shows that I remember liking that I'd put in the sci-fi category; 'X Files', 'Voyagers' and 'ALF', if you count him.

Are you a science fiction fan? What are a few of your favorite movies and TV shows?
