Jennifer Lawrence Style Breakdown: What’s Right, What’s Wrong, and How to Fix It

Jennifer Lawrence has evolved into a style icon and a twice-nominated Oscar contender in the span of a few years. Her style is sexy and edgy, and she has only rare "WTF?" moments (and even rarer wardrobe malfunctions). The woman who is perhaps best known as Katniss Everdeen from 'The Hunger Games' usually shows up at a Hollywood event and knocks 'em dead.

But that's not to say her style hasn't had a few growing pains as she's developed.

Lawrence has experimented with her hair hue, trying sleek brunette strands and darker waves. Her platinum California girl locks (even though she was born and raised in Louisville, Ken.) are the most striking.

She also nailed it at the 2013 Golden Globes in a scarlet Dior dress. Like, wow.

What's Right:

Her simple tomato-colored custom Calvin Klein creation for the 2011 Oscars was a winner on every level there is. It was slinky and stuck to her body like latex, but it was also youthful and pretty. We can't stop looking at her boobs. (Yeah, we said it and we're not sorry.)

This short and structured fishnet-paneled, periwinkle Viktor & Rolf frock is easily one of her best red carpet looks ever. This could have been trashy since it's so peekaboo -- but look at that pose, those piercing eyes and that confidence. J. Law oozes confidence without ever being cocky, and just enough skin shows.

This gold Prabal Gurung gown, which she wore to a 'Hunger Games' premiere, has a bit of a foil look but she works it. You've gotta be comfortable in your own skin to pull this off -- and she yanks it. The messy updo and smoldering eyes are a welcome contrast.

Have we mentioned our girl crush on J. Law? This cornflower blue Victoria Beckham frock forced us to upgrade our crush to full-blown style love. This is the actress at her most flawless.

We love this micro-mini in a citrus color and those bedhead waves from 2010. Gorgeous!

The cut and bodice of this Ralph Lauren gown, which she wore to another 'Hunger Games' premiere, looks like something Katniss Everdeen's mother would wear. It's not bad, by any means. It's quite simple and eye-catching. It is, however, a little too boring for J to the Law. But she looks too good for us to call this is a "wrong."

The ornate and stylized fabric of this Valentino dress is balanced by her romantic milkmaid head braid.

What's Wrong:

This navy Stella McCartney gown is an accident waiting to happen. Her boobies have no support and look sloppy, and the choker is so 'Melrose Place.' It's an accessory with a time and a place that's not 2011. She looks like she should be serving up pitchers in an 1800s saloon.

This white Dolce & Gabanna dress is too much like a tablecloth come to life. For J. Law, it's booooring.

This dip-dyed and tie-dyed (for lack of a better word) Dior Couture gown isn't flattering, either. The fabric is too shiny and clashes with her overly conditioned, too-straight hair. We prefer J. Law with a little bend to her strands. She's too severe here.

Here she is, all growns ups, in a Prabal Gurung gown. It's pretty, yes. But it's nipped and tucked in too many places. It's just a matter of styling that makes this feel a tad off.

Alexander McQueen is a god when it comes to fashion, but the hem on this frock needs to be shortened in order to sex it up. Get thee to a tailory! Hack off a few inches -- we want the hem to hit above the knee -- and BAM. You've got one sexalicious sheath, baby girl.

We don't want to discuss her ill-fitting Valentino dress at the 2013 People Choice Awards. It was too much bunched-up fabric. Boo.

How to Fix It:

Her hot pink Oscar de la Renta gown from 2011 is busy, with the black sash, the high slit, the strappy heels and the criss-crossed bodice. It's slightly over-styled. But the color and that leggy, Angelina-before-Angelina-did-it pose is indicative of J. Law's fashion confidence.

She takes risks with her roles and her clothes. Bright colors are her friend.

Jewel tones are also her friends. Ruby red and emerald green look amazing on her, since her skin is so creamy and well, perfect. God, we hate her. This short and sexy Calvin Klein frock also shows off some of her best assets.

Lawrence often wears unfussy silhouettes, but there's nothing wrong with getting girly and glammy with some black ruffles, like she did in this showstopping Louis Vuitton gown.

The actress is also quite on trend. Her colorblocked Prabal Gurung frock is so "right now." Keep paying attention to trends, lady, since you intuit them so well.
