As the star of the Hunger Games franchise of dystopian films, Jennifer Lawrence knows a thing or two about speaking truth to fascist power. Luckily for her, volunteering as tribute in our current apocalypse does not require fighting teens to the death for the entertainment of a bloodthirsty crowd (yet); she just wrote a letter and ran it on Vice’s feminist-oriented vertical Broadly. The outspoken celebrity has been no great fan of Donald Trump, and was horrified to watch him seize the Presidency during Tuesday night’s election. Now, she’s made her voice heard, and she wants the American people to get angry.

Lawrence’s letter adopts a tone of crestfallen shock, a sadly common voice in the past few days, during its opening paragraph. She begins by lamenting the sad state of our nation:

Is this the stark reality? It doesn’t matter how hard you work or how qualified you are, at the end of the day, if you’re not a man? Is that what we just learned? This country was founded on immigration and today the only people that feel safe, that their rights are recognized and respected are white men.

She goes on to express her grave concern for the direction many key issues may now be headed in, from climate change (“If you’re worried about the health of our planet, find out everything you can about how to protect it”) to the treatment of pretty much everyone who hasn’t been born a straight white man (“If you’re worried about racial violence love your neighbor more than you’ve ever tried to before—no matter what they believe or who they voted for”).

In its final sentences, Lawrence’s letter exhorted readers to make their voice heard and not take injustice lying down. She sounded the call to action:

Do not let this defeat you—let this enrage you! Let it motivate you! Let this be the fire you didn’t have before. If you are an immigrant, if you are a person of color, if you are LGBTQ+, if you are a woman—don’t be afraid, be loud!

Lawrence has already led one revolution against a nefarious empire; looks like maybe she’s got another one in her.
