Jon James: ‘I’ll Do ‘Bout Anything for a Free Burger from Mickey D’s’

As I came home from my Waterville sleep study this morning, I swung into the Winslow McDonald's to grab breakfast...a Sausage McMuffin and a large McCafe coffee. I didn't think much of it as I enjoyed the food and beverage on the way home (not that I eat in the car).

Once inside my house, I noticed the cup had a drawing of a gift with the words, "TREAT INSIDE," underneath it.

At that point, I had visions of a free Big Mac, triple cheeseburger or a Bacon Clubhouse Burger. I polished off the coffee, lickity split, and began to dis-assemble the cup, looking for where the certificate might be hidden. Carefully, gently, I tore through the outer wrapping. It seemed to be affixed to tightly to the cup for a "treat" to be hidden so I called my buddy, Kim Norris, at the Western Avenue, Augusta, McDonald's.

She started to laugh (I love hearing her laugh...it makes me happy!).

"The treat inside is the beverage," she said, still laughing. "You got the large....the small says, 'warm your heart' and the medium says, 'cup of cheer,'" she continued.

So now, here I sit. A cup I can't re-use and no free burger. Please, somebody, tell me you've done the same thing!
