Justin Bieber Tells Billboard What Everyone Already Knows: He + Selena Gomez Broke Up

Justin Bieber on Billboard

Justin Bieber is finally confirming what we all knew already: He and visibly lightweight singer/actress/whatever Selena Gomez are finally finis (granted, that can easily change by the time we finish writing this sentence).

Bieber’s only interview to promote his new ‘Believe Acoustic’ album was with Billboard, and he admitted that he’s not the happiest camper now that Gomez is gone, but that we shouldn’t believe everything we read.

(Unless you read it here, obvs.)

“There’s so many rumors. People say I call Selena every day and she won’t pick up the phone or I’m chasing her down, and these are all fake stories,” he griped.

“I don’t go on blogs or anything like that,” he assured, but admitted, “I hear things. People tell me if something happens on the internet. It gets back to me, definitely.”

One of his new songs, ‘Nothing Like Us,’ is pretty transparently about Gomez, something that Bieber’s manager, the chatty, fame-hungry Scooter Braun affirmed to the mag. Bieber explained that the sad song reflects where he is, “Because at the end of the day, there’s nothing like us, you know? That’s just it. It is what it is. People are going to relate to that.”

Despite having “a blast” with “great friends,” one of whom may be named Mary Jane, Bieber admits he’s not the barrel of sunshine he might seem to be. “I’m not in the happiest place that I’ve ever been,” the tween heartthrob said. “I’m trying to get through what I’m going through. Like I said, I have my really close friends to cheer me up and keep me going.”

And to lend you their lighters. Just saying.

Bieber also is well aware of the relatively short shelf life of teen stars (which may also explain Gomez going back to Disney for a reunion of ‘The Wizards of Waverly Place’ and her “edgy” ‘Spring Breakers’ flick), and possibly that he may be at risk of being eclipsed by One Direction.

“I don’t think that I’m going to be boiling hot for the rest of my career,” he said.

Still, he’s got a pretty healthy-sized ego, adding, “I think that, if I’m not on top, it would be because I didn’t want to be. It would be a time when I wanted to take a break and do movies or take a break and raise a family. When I’m doing music and I’m really focused, I’m not going to not be where I am.”

Cheer up, kid — you’re young, you’re rich and there’s a line of a few million girls (some of whom may even be legal) ready and willing to take Gomez’s place.
