The best-selling album of 2013 should not come as a shock. It was Justin Timberlake's 'The 20/20 Experience,' which was his triumphant return to music. Robin Thicke's ubiquitous 'Blurred Lines' was the top-selling single of the year. Again, no surprise there!

That's the good news, as reported by Billboard.

The not-so-great news is that 'The 20/20 Experience,' which dropped March 19, sold fewer than 3 million copies, tallying 2.43 million. Only one other year end chart-topper in history sold less than 3 million, and it was Lil Wayne's 'Tha Carter III,' which sold 2.87 million in 2008.

The better news is that 'Blurred Lines' sold 6.5 million copies and is one of just 26 songs to sell over six million copies since 1991, which means it fared well, statistically speaking.

The numbers suggest that singles are selling more briskly than full albums.

The stats were tracked from Dec. 31, 2012 through Dec. 29 of this year.

Congrats to the 'Lake and Thicke on their accolades and for making great pop music in the one-three.
