Kanye West, Alicia Keys + More to Perform at 12-12-12 Hurricane Sandy Benefit Concert
Kanye West and Alicia Keys are joining rock legends Bruce Springsteen, Paul McCartney and more for a Hurricane Sandy Benefit Concert at Madison Square Garden on Dec. 12. The event benefits the Robin Hood Foundation and will be produced by the same groups who put together the memorable 9/11 benefit The Concert for New York City.
The Who, Roger Waters, Billy Joel and Jon Bon Jovi round out the lineup of performers announced so far. Information on tickets, VIP packages, and possible tv coverage will be released in the coming days on the 12-12-12 concert website.
Producers James Dolan, John Sykes and Harvey Weinstein said in a statement, “12-12-12 is shaping up to be a showcase of musical royalty. The response of the entertainment community to help those most affected by Sandy has been nothing short of astounding.”
Keys was among the thousands personally affected by the storm. She and hubby Swizz Beatz were forced to leave their homes after their Manhattan apartment lost power. “I was fortunate because my mother’s place didn’t lose power, so we were able to take shelter with her,” Keys said. “Losing power was interesting, especially when you have to entertain a little boy. But it was cool — he’s so imaginative so it all worked out.”
Springsteen, Joel and Bon Jovi were participants in NBC’s Sandy telethon earlier this month. All three rockers grew up in the New York-New Jersey area where some of the worst storm damage occurred.
