Katy Perry today (Dec. 3) was named a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador for underprivileged youth. She will be engaging young people in UNICEF's work hoping to improve the lives of the world's most vulnerable children and teenagers.

The 'Unconditionally singer said:

I believe young people have the power to change their own lives, with our help, I am honored to join UNICEF as a Goodwiil Ambassador, and committed to doing everything I can to help children and adolescents who come from such different backgrounds but want the same thing: a brighter future.

Back in the fall, Perry contributed 'Roar' to the soundtrack of a new public service campaign for inspiring girls to become tomorrow's champions and increase opportunity for girls' education as part of UNICEF's observance of the second annual 'International Day of the Girl Child.'
