With a new fiance and a steady gig on 'Fashion Police,' Kelly Osbourne has a pretty good life these days. But it wasn't always that way -- in fact, she once had a drug problem so bad her mother Sharon resorted to desperate measures to scare her straight.

During Kelly's darkest days of addiction, she logged time in two mental institutions and seven rehab facilities.

"My mom even had me put in a padded cell once to scare me," she told Cosmopolitan UK. "But like a brat I just sat it out until she said, 'Well, that's not going to work.'"

But unlike many younger people, Kelly's substance abuse issues weren't the result of peer pressure. Stranger still, drugs weren't a social activity for her at all.

"I was never one of those people who was like, 'Let's party; let's go and do loads of coke,'" the 28-year-old TV host said. "I would never even tell anyone I had drugs because I wanted them all to myself. I was quite selfish."

So what finally got through to her?

"What changed for me was looking around and seeing that nobody liked me or wanted to work with me," she admitted. And now that she's clean, hindsight is, of course, 20/20.

"I’ve learned no amount of therapy or medication is going to work unless you want it to," Kelly added. "Until you want to be a good person, you will never be one."
