Here is the deal. You ready to accept a new fur-ever family member? Check out this from the Kennebec Valley Humane Society. Adoption fee cuts! See, summer is the busiest time of year for the KVHS, which serves 21 area towns and nearly 2,500 local animals in need every year. Currently, KVHS has over 125 cats and over 30 dogs to care for in the shelter and through volunteers in foster homes. That is a lot of pets looking for homes.  So to help those fur babies find their homes,KVHS will be waiving fees on cats that are 7 months old and older and dogs that have spent more than one month in the shelter. They shelter is suggesting adoption fee donations of $25 for adult cats and $50 for dogs.

“Shelter pets are available for adoption throughout the year, but summer is the busiest time in terms of the number of incoming animals out our local shelter” says Hillary Roberts, KVHS Executive Director. “Waiving and reducing fees helps us to alleviate the many stresses that an overcrowded animal shelter can cause for the animals we serve. Very simply, our goal is to save more lives of animals. To do this, we are turning to community members to come in to our shelter and open their hearts and homes to a new pet”.

But it gets better, all of the animals available for adoption at KVHS have been spayed or neutered and are up to date on routine vaccinations. Roberts states that these services can cost well over $100. To help advertise the animals available for adoption, KVHS has photos on their website as well as on their facebook page.

If people are interested in helping but cannot adopt, they are encouraged to make donation of money or supplies to the shelter or come in to volunteer their time.
