Lady Gaga, a lifelong Catholic, has embarked on a new feud. Her newest nemesis? The Pope!

To clarify, Gaga has lashed out at the Pontiff, whose ornate, intricate headdress looks like something she'd wear on stage, by shooting down his views on the concept of gay marriage as worthless and irrelevant. That's a big statement for her to hurl at the head of the Catholic church, but this is Gaga, a crusader for gay rights!

In an interview with Europe 1 (quotes courtesy of NME.com), Mother Monster responded to Pope Benedict XVI's comments last week, in which he shot down gay marriage while speaking to French bishops. He declared, "Marriage and the family are institutions that must be promoted and defended from every possible misinterpretation of their true nature, since whatever is injurious to them is injurious to society itself."

Gaga's retort? "I think that gay marriage is going to happen. It must. We are not actually equal humanity if we are not allowed to freely love one another."

She then took shots at Pope Benny, the 265th Pope, saying, "What the Pope thinks of gay marriage does not matter to the world. It matters to the people who like the Pope and follow the Pope. It is not a reflection of all religious people."

That's true. What the Pope says matters to a whole mess of conservative Catholics. Looks like Gaga may have sparked a feud with that group of religiosos, who will certainly take issue with what she said about the Pope and the fact that she disagrees with his viewpoints.
