Artists say that preserving the beauty and history of the 100-year-old copper through art is a no-brainer. But lawmakers are still figuring out with how much the proposal would cost and whether the state can afford it. Under the plan, the state would also hold a design competition to create souvenirs, which would be sold to the public. Other pieces of the copper would be used to create a public art piece for the Statehouse Capitol Complex. According to the Associated Press lawmakers on a bipartisan panel of legislative leaders could vote on the proposal this week.
