Local Twirlers Participate in 24-Hour Twirl-A-Thon Event

On Friday, March 8th the Main-E-Act Baton Twirling Team will undertake a 24-hour Twirl-A-Thon in an effort to raise funds for team travel to the 2019 National Baton Twirling Association’s Grand National Baton Twirling Championships to be held in South Bend, Indiana this July.  Yep…24 hours of twirling!

This is a team of young women from ALL around the State of Maine including MANY central Maine ladies.  One is a member of the Townsquare Central Maine family, team member Jolie Canwell is the daughter of Jessica Canwell who is our business manager.

24-hour Twirl-A-Thon will be held from 7:00pm on Friday, March 8th to7:00pm on Saturday, March 9th at the Bangor Parks and Recreation Center. The event includes a great deal of practicing for upcoming competitive events, but also guest hours during which parents and family, friends, program alumni and current Central Maine Twirling Corps recreational students will visit and twirl with team members to help keep them going.

This fundraiser is sponsored by the Central Maine Twirling Boosters—a non-profit organization formed to promote the sport of baton twirling and raise funds for the athletes of the Central Maine Twirling Corps.

Here is a little history of the team, the Main-E-Acts Baton Twirling Team was created in 2004 and is the travel component of the Central Maine Twirling Corps, a larger baton twirling program offered by the Augusta Recreation Department and Bangor Parks and Recreation Department which includes the Capital City Twirlers and River City Twirlers recreational programs, and Main-E-Act travel team. Team members are selected each year by the director of the Central Maine Twirling Corps for their outstanding twirling abilities, as well as their teamwork, enthusiasm, commitment, dedication, and passion for the sport of baton twirling.

Over the past year the Main-E-Acts have participated in multiple competitions throughout New England, local parades, and other performances at their middle schools, high schools and within communities across Maine.
