Lorde's real name is Ella Yelich-O'Connor. She was born in Auckland, New Zealand, Nov. 7, 1996. Her new song, 'Royals' is beginning to explode in the U.S.

Lorde was spotted at the age of 12 by a music record scout, after he saw a video of her singing in a talent show at her school. She was then signed to Universal Records at the age of 13 and then began working with songwriters at 14.

'Royals was sung on the New Zealand version of 'The X Factor' by an all-girl group, Gap 5. The song debuted at number 1 on the New Zealand Top 40 chart in March of this year and remained their for three weeks.

Lorde's debut album 'Pure Heroine' is scheduled for release this month.
