Greg Michaels’ Review: Mac’s Downeast Seafood in Auburn is Awesome

The kids were home from school today and neither Lynn nor I wanted to cook so we decided to go out. In the neighborhood there is a seafood diner; Mac’s Downeast Seafood and up to this point hadn’t gone. Granted we just moved nine months ago but still had never been in.

On Fridays at this time of year we usually try to have some kind of fish. Today I kind of wanted “British style” fish n’ chips for nostalgic childhood memories. Wow. Mac’s has great seafood! They serve their haddock breaded not in “puffy batter” but it was amazing all the same and probably more nutritious.

We also ordered a side of fried clams, now those I prefer breaded over “puffy.” It was literally the best fried seafood I have ever had. It tasted great and didn’t leave me feeling like I had a pound of grease in your system. Prices there are good too. A bucket of fish and fries is just $25 and that feeds four. The bucket comes with coleslaw too.

So if you’re in the Lewiston-Auburn area and want fried seafood, Mac’s Downeast Seafood is a definite. They’re located on Minot Ave in Auburn near Blackies Farm Stand (also open year round).
