Maine’s Senior FarmShare Program is getting ready for another year. That means eligible Maine seniors will be able to get free fruit, vegetables and herbs from local farmers through the program.

The state Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry says the program is gearing up for another year. In 2012, more than 19,000 seniors and 130 farmers took part in the program. The program provides about $50 worth of produce to each person who takes part. It is funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and run by the state. Last year, Maine received just over $1 million to operate the program. The new applications for this year will start in about a month.
