It could be a sign that the rapid rise of gas prices could be coming to an end. Gas prices in Maine inched up less than a penny a gallon this week, for a statewide average of $2.29 per gallon, according to GasBuddy.com.

Nationally, gas prices were actually lower by about one and a half cent per gallon, with an average of $2.20.

The lowest gas prices reported in Maine came from Berwick at $2.12, the lowest in central Maine was at a gas station in Newport at $2.17 per gallon.

Oklahoma has the countries lowest average gas prices at $1.91 per gallon and seven states have an average of under $2 per gallon.
