For a moment it looked like the UMaine hockey team would settle for a tie with UMass until Blaine Byron scored his third goal of the season with 1:23 to play for the 3-2 win.Connor Riley took the initial shot on goal but the puck went wide of the goal and came to Byron who sneak it past the Minutemen goalie just inside the post for the game winner. The Bears had to come back from a two goal deficit after UMass got 2 in the second period grabbing a 2-0 lead going into the dressing room. The Bears offense kicked into gear in the third period when Devin Shore scored to cut the lead in half before Liam Pecararo tied the game.

Freshman goalie Sean Romeo made 30 saves to get his first career win.

The Bears improve to 3-4-1 overall and 2-0 in Hockey East. Its the first time since 2007-08 that UMaine has won the first two games in conference play.

After three weeks at home, UMaine hits the road next week for a weekend series in Vermont.
