An Aroostook County man serving a 55-year prison sentence for murder died this morning, according to a release from the Maine Department of Corrections.

Paul Henry Gray, 68, had served approximately 21 years of his sentence at the Maine State Prison in Warren. Gray was convicted in 1993 of strangling Betty Curliss to death after an argument over money.

His death occurred approximately 5:30 a.m., at Maine Medical Center in Portland. The cause of death was not revealed. The Maine State Police and the State Medical Examiner are reviewing the death.

Gray was scheduled to be released on Jan.4, 2028.
