Maine's U.S. senators say four museums in the state will receive nearly $400,000 in federal funding to make improvements.

Sens. Angus King and Susan Collins say the Institute of Museum and Library Services Museums for America program is providing the money for museums in Portland and Augusta.

The Maine State Museum will receive more than $85,000 to fund a long-range plan for its collections, records and archives

The Portland museums are the Maine Historical Society, the Portland Museum of Art and the Victoria Mansion. The Maine State Museum in Augusta will also receive funds.

The Maine Historical Society will receive the largest grant of nearly $150,000. The money will help the society catalog and digitize about 1,000 of the earliest photographs in Maine history.  .— PORTLAND, Maine (AP)
