It's that time of the year.  The laws passed by the Maine lawmakers in the last session are active, as of Thursday.  There are some that will affect just about everyone, and some that only affect you if you are doing things that are not cool.  For ALL drivers, the minimum fine for texting and driving increases from $100 to $250. Teen drivers with new a new license, there are more restrictions.  Agriculture and Conservation Departments are now one; Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry. You will face penalties of up to $2,000 for spending benefits on alochol, gambling and strip joints. 'Tax zappers' programs that falsify electronic sales records are a no-no. The program lets businesses can underreport the totals and lower their sales tax bills. Those are some of the new laws Mainers are looking at as of Thursday. Enjoy !
