A follow up on a measure passed by the Maine Senate last week regarding the requirement to show ID when voting; was voted down in the Maine House.

Last week, the Maine Senate passed LD197 by one vote, 18-17, the house today (May 5, 2015) voted the bill down by 82-66.

The vote more or less went down the party line. All Democrats voted no along with two Republicans and four Independents. For how your representative voted, click here.

The Maine House had the same basic arguments for and against as the Senate had last week. It creates hurdles and disenfranchises people say those against and those in favor of the bill say it would curtail and prevent voter fraud.

As it stands, 31 states have a law that requires voters to show ID at the polls.
