We have had a lot of snow in central Maine this year and that could create problems for building owners if we get rain before the snow melts or is cleared off. That excessive snow on roofs, particularly flat roofs most commonly found on commercial property, can cause them to collapse.
According to the KJ, that is why it’s important for building owners to be mindful of how much snow is on their roof. Building with flat roofs or shallow angled-roofs should be kept clear as and be aware that the wind can lead to snowdrifts collecting on parts of the roof. (centralmaine.com)
