Extra caution needs to be used when carrying a sidearm. When carrying a pistol with only a trigger safety, it's even more important to know the position of the weapon when, say, pulling up your trousers.

This story does contain some discrepancies which are important. First of all, the text says a man was pulling up his pants while the video says he was pulling the gun out of a holster. Also, the text says he was licensed to carry the Glock he had while the video indicates it was a Springfield Armory weapon. Huge difference. The Glock would have had only a trigger safety and not the grip safety. That could make accidental discharge more likely if someone wasn't being careful.

Bottom line is, nobody besides the man with the gun was injured inside the Ohio Chick-Fil-A Restaurant. He shot himself in the thigh but was treated and released from the hospital. No charges will be filed.

The takeaway? If you're carrying a gun, treat it like the deadly weapon that it is and have your full attention on what you're doing whenever you're handling it. Otherwise, you shouldn't be carrying.

Personally, this is why I don't carry a Glock. I own a Glock 17 and I love it. It's a great shooter. But all Glocks have just a trigger safety which can easily be accidentally deactivated without even realizing it IF you aren't FULLY aware of how you're grabbing it.

Criticize me if you like, but I like the added security of a manual thumb safety. I've heard about many accidents with Glocks, even among pros.
