Marriott Hotels made an announced to it's customers that approximately 500 million have had their data hacked after staying at one of several Marriott brand hotels. This hack may have effected anyone that stayed in a "Starwood property" on or before September 10th and going back as far as 2014.

Some of the hotels effected are:

  • W Hotels
  • St. Regis
  • Sheraton Hotels & Resorts
  • Westin Hotels & Resorts
  • Element Hotels
  • Aloft Hotels
  • The Luxury Collection
  • Tribute Portfolio Le Méridien Hotels & Resort
  • Four Points by Sheraton Design Hotels

The company has stated that they were alerted by an internal security protocol within the Starwood guest authorization database that information had been copied and encrypted by an unauthorized party. The database itself contains information about customers including names, addresses, passport numbers, dates of birth and other information including some credit card information.
