‘Green Acres’ TV Star, Who Once Lived in Maine, Has Passed Away
I loved the show 'Green Acres.' It was part of the rural comedies of the 60's including 'The Beverly Hillbillies' and Petticoat Junction.' What was great, was that the show never took it self seriously. Actually, it was the opposite. it was just so ridiculous that couldn't help but laugh...and the great on-liners, too. The show had very memorable characters, like Mr. Haney, Sam Drucker, Arnold the Pig and the carpenter twins, Ralph & Alf. Well, Ralph is no longer with us.
Actress Mary Grace Canfield, who played the wise-cracking Ralph died Saturday (Feb. 15) in a hospice in Santa Barbara, Calif. She was 89. The cause was lung cancer.
According to the Bangor Daily News:
Canfield lived in Montecito, Calif., from 1968 to 1984 and then moved to Sedgwick, Maine. She had fallen in love with the state during summer stock productions there years before.
