Mean Girls is finally, finally coming to Broadway. Rumors of a musical have abounded for years, and now Tina Fey and Lorne Michaels are bringing it to us as early as next spring. That’s so — well, you know.

Mean Girls has steadily been cementing itself into our cultural consciousness ever since it debuted in theaters in 2004 and gave us a highly outrageous yet oddly relatable high school comedy that changed how we listened to “Jingle Bell Rock” forever. The book for the new musical was written by Tina Fey, who wrote the script for the movie, produced by Lorne Michaels, and has music by Fey’s husband Jeff Richmond with lyrics by Legally Blonde’s Nell Benjamin and choreography by The Book of Mormon’s Casey Nicholaw. An all-star production ensemble, to say the least.

Michaels noted how the musical format allows the story to flesh out its characters a little more. “There are lots of things you can do better in a musical,” he told The New York Times. “The characters are fuller.” The show is also set in the modern day, so the Plastics will have Instagram, Snapchat, and all the other ways the modern world has come up with to torment teens. It will also have some stiff competition on Broadway as the Frozen show is set to begin next spring, as well as SpongeBob Squarepants and the imminent arrival of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child on our shores.

The Mean Girls cast includes Erika Henningsen as Cady Heron, Taylor Louderman as Regina George, Ashley Park as Gretchen Wieners and Kate Rockwell as Karen Smith. It begins previews March 12 and opens April 8 at the August Wilson Theater.
