In the news right now, there is a lot of talk about measles and it returning. In some cases even kids vaccinated against it are still coming down with this disease at one time thought of as a childhood rite of passage.

I admit, I never got measles and quite honestly I'm not sure if I've ever been vaccinated against it. I know I never got a Chicken Pox shot, got a mild case at 17 years old or so I was told and moved on.

It's funny to think that in my childhood, parents held Chicken Pox parties so that kids would get it before they got older as Chicken Pox is often very harsh if contracted as an adult.

I am a proponent mostly of common sense, with that said, I think parents and families should be able to make their own decisions on whether to get vaccinations.

If you want my personal track record, yes, I vaccinate my children, and usually that means getting a flu shot as well.

We are very lucky to live in a country where we have advanced medicine, and to live where a lot of these "old" diseases have pretty much been eradicated. We live in a time where a major measles outbreak scare makes huge news when not more than 35 years ago, it was common to catch and recover in childhood.
