10-years-old is old enough to understand a lot about life. Loving your family and friends, doing homework, riding bikes and playing games. At 10, you understand what it means to be sick and realize it's just a matter of time before you feel better. Comprehending a sickness that's not going to get better is a bit beyond most 4th graders' comprehension, however, unless you're someone like Gavin who can comprehend it all too well.....

When Gavin was 2, he started to get sick but his illnesses (yes, there are 2) went undiagnosed until he was 4.

Eosinophilic Esophagitis is a problem with the esophagus. He also has incurable Autoimmune Hepatitis which basically means that Gavin's own immune system is attacking his liver. He takes medication daily, has regular blood work and frequent biopsies.

Gavin will be doing his first fundraiser, the Liver Life Walk, in Portland on June 2nd. He's a brave kid and he deserves support. I hope you'll join me in supporting this young man as he sets a good example for all of us! And thank you to mom, Melissa, for helping her son get the word out!
