If you thought the discord over Nicki Minaj's comments surrounding this year's MTV Video Music Awards had reached a peaceful conclusion, there's a chance the battle's about to pick back up.

Miley Cyrus, who will host this year's show, admitted to the New York Times in an interview published yesterday (August 27) that she didn't pay much attention to a feud between Taylor Swift and Nicki Minaj that erupted last month (Minaj accused MTV of favoring white artists; Swift consequently accused Minaj of pitting women against each other). Still, that hasn't stopped the "Wrecking Ball" singer from weighing in.

"What I read sounded very Nicki Minaj, which, if you know Nicki Minaj is not too kind," Cyrus shared. "It’s not very polite. I think there’s a way you speak to people with openness and love. You don’t have to start this pop star against pop star war. It became Nicki Minaj and Taylor in a fight, so now the story isn’t even on what you wanted it to be about."

Cyrus added that she thinks Minaj's point—which may have been a valid one—was ultimately lost in translation.

"If you do things with an open heart and you come at things with love, you would be heard and I would respect your statement," she said. "But I don’t respect your statement because of the anger that came with it."

"You made it about you," she added. "Not to sound like a bitch, but that’s like, 'Eh, I didn’t get my VMA.'"

Drama aside, Miley's promised an upgrade for the 2015 show.

"I didn’t want this VMAs to be like they’ve been in the past," she said. "Last year there wasn’t even a host, so there was no energy."

Think Miley has a point, or is she way out of line? Sound off in the comments.
