Ne-Yo Talks Meeting Michael Jackson on VH1′s ‘Behind the Music’
It’s no secret that Ne-Yo‘s musical hero was the late and great Michael Jackson. On an upcoming episode of VH1′s ‘Behind the Music,’ the ‘Lazy Love’ singer reminisces about working with the King of Pop on his new album before his untimely death.
According to Ne-Yo, it started with a surprise phone call from MJ in spring 2009, which led to their first meeting at a recording studio. “We met up in New York, he smiles and we gives me hug,” he recalls. “He then goes, ‘Do you know what my favorite song of your is? Please don’t worry about me, I’m fine.’”
“He started singing my damn song (‘Go On Girl‘), I almost lost it at that point,” he continues. “I maintained, but inside, I was jumping around like a six-year-old girl. It’s was bad, it was really, really bad.”
Elsewhere in the episode, Ne-Yo also reveals about how stardom turned him into an R&B lothario when it came to the ladies. “To know that I can walk in a room where there’s 20 women and snap my fingers and at least 18 of them are coming with me, I was a bit of a slut for a second. I can admit it,” he says.
But all of that is in the past, as Ne-Yo is currently in committed relationship with girlfriend Monyetta Shaw. The couple have two children together — a two-year-old girl named Madilyn Grace Smith and a 11-month-old boy named Mason Evan Smith.
The episode also highlights how he penned Beyonce‘s kick-you-to-the-curb anthem ‘Irreplaceable’ and features commentary from Motown legend Smokey Robinson, record mogul Antonio “L.A.” Reid, and Ne-Yo’s mother and sister.
VH1′s ‘Behind the Music: Ne-Yo’ episode will air on Sunday (Sept. 23) at 9PM ET.
