A second round of testing conducted by the Kennebec Water District has found lower levels of lead in the water at a Maine elementary school.

General manager Jeff LaCasse tells The Morning Sentinel all of the sites tested at Benton Elementary School last week are "well below the action level" and lower than what they were before.

The first round of testing done Oct. 14 had found results more than 40 times the limit at which action is needed. The school shut down its drinking fountains and told teachers to instruct students to use bottle water dispensers.

LaCasse says the results of the second round of testing and an investigation of the school's piping system shows that brass pipes may be the origin of the lead levels.— BENTON, Maine (AP)
