Nicki Minaj Covers Teen Vogue in Ballerina Style
Nicki Minaj gets her Teen Vogue on, covering the mag’s June/July double issue in romantic, ballerina fashion. Hello, pink and blue pastels.
While her Minajesty is known for her “out there” fashions, she looks like she could be a modern member of Marie Antoinette’s court in the spread for Teen Vogue, thanks to her flowing, white-blonde locks, tutu and platform heels.
The ‘American Idol’ judge waxed about the music industry, likening it to immature school games (something she has no time for), saying, “People treat this business like it’s high school. It can absolutely feel like one big popularity contest, and you know what? I can’t be bothered. I can’t allow myself to play ridiculous games with grown adults in the industry. I can’t be nice to someone just because they’re hot right now. I can’t do it.”
We love her honesty and that fact that she refuses to play nice in order to avoid rocking the boat.
The rap vixen also addressed her childhood, which wasn’t idyllic by any means and lead to some unsettling experiences for her. “Every time my parents fought, my mother would have us move and I would have to go to a new school, which meant I’d have to face the task of making new friends,” she confessed. “I dreaded it. I had butterflies in my stomach each time: Are people going to like or hate me? Sometimes there’d be a fight, sometimes not. I let people know I wasn’t going to be pushed around.”
Minaj also spoke about how people use social media as a bullying tool, since they can hide behind the anonymity of a keyboard. She doesn’t let it get to her, saying, “I used to read the bad things people said about me. Then I asked myself, ‘Why am I reading that when I have millions of people saying great things?’ You cannot give negativity power. I tell teens, if you’re having a problem, there’s nothing wrong with deleting your social media. If people keep taunting you and you keep reading it, it’s poison.”
She puts her money where her mouth is — she did deactivate her Twitter account in the past when she was miffed about music leaking.
