Nicole Johnson’s Country Twang Carries Kelly Clarkson’s ‘Mr. Know It All’ on ‘The Voice’
Nicole Johnson sang her country heart out to ‘Mr. Know-It-All’ by Kelly Clarkson during her blind audition on tonight’s episode of ‘The Voice,’ inspiring judges Cee Lo Green and Blake Shelton to turn around.
It was clear that Cee Lo heard something worth paying attention to in the 18-year-old singer’s voice from the very start; he turned around right away. As for Shelton? He was won over by Johnson’s southern accent — more specifically, her use of the word “thang.” “I’m two hundred percent a believer in you,” Shelton remarked enthusiastically. “I’d be truly honored to be your country music coach.”
While Johnson was practically giddy with excitement over the two male judges showing such excitement over her, she ultimately decided to stick to her roots. “I’m a country girl, and I’m gonna have to go with Blake.”
Originally from Louisiana, Johnson’s entire family relocated to Nashville, Tenn. in order to support the young singer’s passion. She was given her first guitar before she was even old enough to go to school, and she wrote her first song when she was only seven.
“I just knew that I wanted to go for it and be a singer,” Johnson said.
With her family behind her all the way — and now, with Shelton in her corner — it seems that she has a real shot at turning her dream into a reality.
