Notorious B.I.G.’s Autopsy Details His Graphic Demise + The Whiteness of the Coroner

Christopher Wallace, better known by the stage names Biggie Smalls and the Notorious B.I.G., died after he was shot to death in his car in Los Angeles in 1997.

Now, in an autopsy report just released to the public, we know exactly which of four bullet wounds he sustained actually killed him — and that the coroner who detailed the findings was clearly not a big music connoisseur.

TMZ has somehow (belatedly) obtained the report, which reveals the details of the 24-year-old, 6’1″, 395-pound rapper’s demise while sitting in the passenger seat of a Chevy Suburban.

Gunshot #1 struck Wallace in the left forearm and traveled down to his wrist.
Gunshot #2 struck Wallace in the back, missed all vital organs, and exited through his left shoulder.
Gunshot #3 struck Wallace on his outer left thigh and exited through his inner left thigh.

When the third gunshot left Wallace’s thigh, “the projectile [struck] the left side of the scrotum, causing a very shallow, 3/8 inch linear laceration.” Ow.

But it was the fourth bullet — which entered Biggie through his right hip, ripping through several vital organs before lodging in his left shoulder — that sealed his fate. It went through his colon, liver, heart and part of his left lung.

Despite being rushed to Cedars-Sinai Hospital for emergency surgery, it was sadly too late to save Biggie’s life. His death sparked massive mourning in the music community, and the work he left behind continues to inspire artists to this day.

But the coroner who performed the autopsy was clearly unaware of the significance of the body on his table. In his notes, he wrote the epic understatement, “Decedent may be rap singer.”
