After a bit of time getting things ready and a christening in Boston, the Nova Star is set make her first run with the Portland-Yarmouth service.

On Saturday, the ship was in Portland Harbor doing tours to those who came by from 10-2. I toyed with going, however, with so much to do at home I couldn't make it.

The trip is about 10 hours and leaves Portland in the evening and arrives in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia early the next morning. The Yarmouth to Portland trip takes the same amount of time and leaves in the morning to arrive in Maine in the evening.

On board there are 70 slot machines, three restaurants, a spa, kids’ area, duty free shopping and more!

There are different grades of cabins to choose from. Adult fares go from $79 - $139 depending on season. Drive-on fares are higher. If you choose to rent a cabin that will be an additional cost as well. The ship carries just over 1,200 people and runs spring through fall.

Mom will be taking the Nova Star a week from today from Yarmouth to Portland, so I’ll probably have a better sense of the ride when she gets here.

It’s nice to have ferry service again between Maine and Nova Scotia again!
