The 'Moose is Loose' (July 24) for the kick-off of OakFest!  It's a brand new three-day celebration in downtown Oakland.

Look for the Moose Caboose in the parade Friday night. Other events include a street dance, an open-air market and a triathlon.

The parade starts at 6 p.m. at Messalonskee High School. It winds down Pleasant and Church streets and will end in Haymarket Square. The street dance follows the parade from 7 to 9 p.m. on Main Street.

On Saturday at the sports fields next to Williams Elementary School will be an open-air market with food, arts, crafts, live music and a lot more. Almost 60 vendors have registered Also there will be firetrucks from the Oakland Fire Department, a petting zoo and games.

Sunday there will be a spcial paddle, pedal, pound triathlon. Instead of swimming, there will be a kayak 2.5 mile paddle on Messalonskee Lake. The competition also consists of a 12-mile bicycle ride and a 3.1-mile run.
