According to WGME 13, Joan Smyrski, the associate director of treatment and recovery in the Maine Office of Substance Abuse, pleaded guilty on Tuesday to operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol.

Police say a Franklin County sheriff's deputy stopped and arrested Joan Smyrski in September. She was charged with OUI and pleaded guilty in court this week.

The Department of Health and Human Services has not commented on her job status. Smyrski's attorney says she still works for the state, but is not yet back on the job.

The irony of Smyrski's arrest and conviction was not lost on Maine's social media audience. Several commenters online have called for her to be removed from her job.
