Paramore Return With Urgent Single ‘Now’

Paramore are back after an extended absence with ‘Now,’ a high-octane rock track from their upcoming self-titled album.

The track reveals an immediate similarity to the music of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Singer Hayley Williams’ vocals are slightly distorted as she sings, “Don’t try to take this from me / Don’t try to take this from me now” over a heavy guitar riff.

The song opens into more familiar Paramore territory with the catchy hook, “If there’s a future, we want it now-ow-ow-ow.” The music and the lyrics both carry a certain sense of urgency as Williams adds, “There’s a time and a place to die… and this ain’t it.

The trio completed most of the album with Justin Meldal-Johnsen, who has worked with Beck, M83 and Neon Trees. Williams told Rolling Stone the new record is different than previous Paramore material:

“For the first time, I’m not angry on every song, I’m not spitting lyrics. I’m singing lyrics, and it’s nice. It just feels good. And sure, there’s still songs where I dig into matters of, you know, matters of, I don’t know, pain, and matters of the heart and more introspective stuff, but I was able to look at that in a new way. I don’t really feel like I’m standing there screaming at a wall anymore. It felt so healthy to write it.”

The ‘Paramore’ album is scheduled for release on April 9. It will be the band’s first since 2009′s ‘Brand New Eyes,’ though in 2011 they did issue the single ‘Monster’ from the ‘Transformers: Dark of the Moon’ soundtrack.
