Pitbull Defends Jay-Z in His Own ‘Open Letter’ Track

If anyone should have an opinion on Jay-Z and Beyonce‘s trip to Cuba, it should be Pitbull. While this may sound far-fetched, Mr. 305 is a Miami native, but both of his parents are Cuban immigrants to the South Florida city.

The ‘Feel This Moment,’ rapper released his own version of Jay-Z’s ‘Open Letter,’ and it isn’t so much a defense of whether the couple should have vacationed in the island nation as it is a dialogue about Cuban history and the country’s contentious relationship with the U.S.

Pitbull took to Twitter to post his thoughts on the controversy tweeting:

The Miami native raps in the hook of the song obviously yearning for the end of Communist leader Fidel Castro’s reign, “Here’s the freedom we ride for, here’s the freedom we die for / C-U-B-A hope to see you free one day,” adding in the first couple lines of the second verse, “In Cuba hit the lotto that means get your family search for freedom and run.” The “lottery” Pitbull is referring to are the processes to win U.S. citizenship.

Pitbull finally speaks up for Beyonce and Jay-Z saying, “Happy 5th year anniversary, Jay and B don’t worry it’s on me.”

Jay-Z, of course, released his song ‘Open Letter,’ last week to much controversy. The track even merited a response from the President courtesy of the White House Press Secretary. During a press conference, Jay Carney assured the public that Jay-Z and Beyonce’s trip was cleared by the Treasury and not the President because Obama’s got more important things to worry about than where Jay-Z and Beyonce are vacationing.

The old adage holds true, “Opinions are like bellybuttons… everyone’s got one.”
