After a two-month investigation, agents from the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency have arrested a New York man and a woman from Oakland on heroin charges.

According to Maine Department of Public Safety Spokesman Steve McCausland, the two were arrested in an apartment at 19 Hill St. before dawn this morning.  Nearly a quarter pound of heroin was seized, McCausland said.

McCausland said agents arrested Kendell Cagle, 27, from New York, NY ( who goes by the street name “Gudda”) and Shayna Shaw-Jenney, 27, from Oakland, whose apartment was searched. Both were charged with Class “A” Aggravated Trafficking in Schedule W Drugs (heroin). Cagle’s bail set at $25,000 cash and Shaw-Jenney’s bail was $5,000, McCausland said. The charges were elevated to aggravated due to the amount of drugs seized and because of Cagle’s prior felony drug conviction from New York.

Over the past two months, MDEA, working with Oakland Police, opened an investigation into people from New York City selling  heroin from the apartment. Agents conducted several undercover purchases of heroin from occupants of the apartment.

Early this morning, MDEA agents, assisted by State Police, Oakland Police and Kennebec County Deputies searched Shaw-Jenney's apartment and seized nearly 100 grams of heroin, which is the equivalent of 1,000 doses, $1,800 in cash and other evidence of drug sales

Agents are continuing the investigation and more arrests are likely, McCausland said.
