Police are now saying the death of a 92-year-old Waterville man was a homicide.

According to Department of Public Safety spokesperson Steve McCausland, police made the determination that the death was a homicide on Saturday, but no further information has been released.

McCausland said the body of Aurele Fecteau was discovered Friday afternoon by a relative who had gone to check on him at his home on 33 Brooklyn Avenue.  McCausland said Fecteau had retired from Scott Paper Company years ago and had lived alone since the death of his wife in 2009.

State and Waterville police are releasing few details until after an autopsy scheduled for Saturday. Investigators are interviewing friends, family, and neighbors, trying to determine what happened.

Any area residents who think they may have seen anything suspicious are urged to call the State Police in Augusta or the Waterville Police, McCausland said.
